Ian Wallace (born 1943) in Shoreham, England, is a Canadian artist based in Vancouver. He won the 2004 Governor General's Awards in Visual and Media Arts.[1] Wallace had tremendous impact on the Vancouver art scene and is considered the father of the Vancouver School of photography[2] which includes notable photo conceptualists such as Vikky Alexander, Jeff Wall, Rodney Graham, Ken Lum and Stan Douglas.

In 1965, Ian Wallace began his art career in Vancouver, receiving his Masters of Arts in Art History from the University of British Columbia in 1968. He taught studio art there from 1968–70, followed by a position at Emily Carr University of Art and Design from 1972-1998.
In 1980, Wallace began to combine photography and painting.[3] Ian Wallace is represented in Paris by Yvon Lambert Gallery, [4] in London by Hauser and Wirth Gallery, and in Vancouver by Catriona Jeffries Gallery. Wallace has had one-person exhibitions at The Power Plant[5] in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, Germany.
